God tells us to let our lights shine.............let's see how using the Parable of a firefly!




Our lights will shine light a city on a hill and lead many to salvation in Jesus!

LIGHT OF THE WORLD

A Natures Parable by Me and Jesus




John 8:12: When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."





Have you ever seen a firefly? I grew up in Maryland where there were thousands of fireflies that would come out in the summer. I was fascinated by them the first time I saw them! They are still, to me, the most interesting bug I have ever seen!





We used to catch them. They fly kind of slow, so they were easy to scoop out the air with your hand. Then we would put several of them in a jar and take them to our room. The jar would glow on and off. We would let them out before we went to sleep, however, because they cannot live long in captivity.






I remember looking at them up close. They were rather ordinary on the top part of their body with two small wings. They were a plain gray color. But on their bottom half, the real interest began. They were just a plain squishy body when they were not lit. But when they lit up, their little light made their whole lower body glow. It was so neat!








We used to get so excited when we would see the first fireflies. That was a sure sign that summer was here! The first night you would see just one or two at night, and after a week, the whole area was full of them. They flew close to the ground and not in the air, so it was great for kids like us to go chasing after them and looking at them.

I would also get particularly excited because it signaled to me that it was time to go swimming again and the water was warm enough. I was the youngest swimmer in our whole town at age three and my parents could not keep me out of the water! I was like a fish!!!

And I would swim for hours on end too!
I still do sometimes........






I have many fond memories of when the fireflies would come out for the season. Now I have been in California for the last 33 years, so I have not seen a firefly for ages! I sure would love to see one again. I know it would inspire many good memories.








MEMORIES



Did you ever have something affect you that way? Some picture in your mind that brings back fond memories of a happy childhood time? Fortunately, I have quite a few. I consider them gifts from God. When you live in the family environment that I did, that is less than desirable, it is a real special gift to be able to have other good memories that you can draw upon instead of focusing on the negatives of the past.








That is one of the ways I survived what I did and was able to move forward. God will always help you and be with you in any circumstances. You just have to be receptive and open to Him.








I used to go in the woods a lot. That was my Haven of rest! I used to find such peace and joy there. I would look for little flowers, like a Jack in the Pulpit, or Lily of the Valley, or tiny colorful mushrooms and listen to the different birds singing. When I would find interesting things of nature, I would be so happy! But we knew to leave them there and just let them grow in their natural beauty.







So I would just enjoy seeing them and then carry the memory home with me. God and I were very close when I would walk in the woods. It was like Adam and Eve in the garden. His gentle hand would hold me and guide me. I never once got lost while exploring in the woods and I went in quite a few woods that stretched a long ways.



That is how we should function as a church. We should be good memories to each other and our families. We should be a Haven of rest for each other. In this world of negativism, and remember, Jesus said we were going to have troubles, we need to be lights for each other.








We need to light up each others path by listening to the Holy Spirit and seeing what the needs are. We need to encourage one another and lift each other up. We need to build strength in our churches by being joyful - not angry or mad or jealous or self serving.








I have seen churches where the people think they are vigilantes against the devil. They forget that the devil already lost the battle and that we should spend our time celebrating and getting close to God. We have nothing to fight accept the spirit of negativity and the spirit of giving up.








With Jesus, there is ALWAYS HOPE! He is our light that shines so brightly. When people ask about your deeds, what do you say? Hopefully you say, I treat people with love and kindness and I listen to the Holy Spirit to guide me to seek and save the lost.








That is what Jesus came to do and right now, two thousand years later, we do not know how much time we have left. So as ambassadors of Jesus, and His light, we need to be in step with the Holy Spirit at all times and be able to minister people He directs us to.



Let your light shine before men, so that when they ask the reason you have hope, you can tell them.
It is Jesus, yes it is Jesus, it is Jesus in my soul.........
Can you hear the singing?







It is important for the fireflies to share the knowledge that God has given us to others who need help. If He turns a light on in some way, you can be assured He will give us the opportunity to use it.
The Word of God exhorts us to encourage one another and build each other up.
I am convinced that those who tear other believers down do not belong to the Kingdom of God. Maybe they did once, but they left their position. God talks about these people in the Book of Jude.
They are the tares that the Holy Angels are going to come and remove-eventually!






God is God and He will examine every one of our hearts and our motives!

It's best to be on His good side like it tells us in Deuteronomy to follow the ways of God and we will be blessed coming in and going out, in the country and in the city.........

I want to be blessed so that I can be a blessing to to others and God will use me and make me useful!
Amen!

That has been my prayer for a very long time!!!




I have devotional calendars all over the house that have very uplifting thoughts that I read everyday! That way I have positive, Godly thoughts in my head no matter what is happening around me.
I have been using these devotional calendars for about the last 20 years.
It is good for everyone to find a way to connect to God that works for them, and not have to rely on other people to get into the Presence of our Almighty Father, God, our Jehovah, our Elohim, our Adonai, our Saba oat.







This one story told of a lady who lived in a very cold climate. During a snowy evening one Winter, her battery went dead and a man stopped and got his jumper cables and helped her get started again. She asked him how much she could pay him? He said, Nothing, you just help someone else the next time.



The very next day, she went out and bought jumper cables in the morning. That evening, she was in a shopping center when they announced over the loud speakers that someone needed help with jumper cables because they were stranded in the parking lot.



This lady, at first hesitated to respond, because it was cold and snowing outside, but then she remembered the man told her to help someone else the next time. So she found out where the people were and went to go help them.



When she got to their car. The husband was under the hood, looking to see what was wrong. The mother and her three children were all huddled in the back, shivering, trying to keep warm. This lady hooked up her jumper cables she had just bought that morning and Viola! - The car started!



The family thanked her profusely and asked what they could pay. She said Nothing, just help someone else the next time, and left. Her analogy of this story was to continue the chain of good works that God gives you the opportunity to do and encourage others to do the same. God wants us to love deeply through our hearts, because love covers over a multitude of sins!









In addition, I say it is like turning on a light for someone! Their battery may be dead for a while, for whatever reason, and when God sends us to them, we can help them recharge with a Word of Scripture given to us by the Holy Spirit. And if you have never done this, just ask God how to do it. God will give you the answer freely without condemning you.








Then we can all help our fellow fireflies get their lights working again! The Bible says to encourage one another and build each other up.
That is so important. I see so much jealousy in the church when a person has gifts and others think that they are entitled to those gifts. People have to get off their attitudes are realize we are serving God, not ourselves, and we need to encourage and build up others in the Body of Christ.
Not everyone can be a hand, or a finger, or a foot.
God created us with different gifts and talents to work in Unity as a Unified Body and not to compete like the pagans do!!!







It is hard enough being in a daily battle with the devil, much less with other Christians and Pastors. I get pretty bold when I see a Christian who has become jealous of someones gifts, including mine. Where does that jealousy stem from? What commandment have they broken? Do not covet your neighbors property!!! I may start a ministry just to tell people what happens when they harbor jealousy of someone elses gifts. They may not get their own!









So, DO NOT get in that trap! Be happy, be glad for others who are serving Jesus. We are supposed to be ONE body, not two or 10,000. God wants us to be unified in the battle of truth. We need to let our lights shine together.

That way, we can blind our enemy, the devil, and not let the enemy blind us!
